One phone to rule them all

by Jacob Pang on 6/14/2007

You can almost hear the impending rush for Iphone when it is launched. Surprisingly, although I might be keen to take a look at it, I don’t think it would be the “be all, end all device”

Anyway, I doubt I am in the Target Demographics for the Iphone since I carry an average of 2 phones at any single time. Below is my hideous collection of sim cards

1) Hong Kong
2) Singapore
3) Indonesia
4) China
4) Blackberry * Impending :-(

Why not carry only 1, you say? Well as I travel quite a bit, not only does a local sim save money, it allows the locals to contact me easier. I once tried to work and used only my Local (Singapore / Hong Kong) phone in China. Every single of my client upon meeting me for coffee enquired on whether I had a local number which could ease their communications.

Anyway, the ONE phone that would rule them all at least for me would probably be along these lines

1) Windows Mobile based
For so many reasons such as Outlook sync, Office documents
2) Keyboard (Blackberry style or Slide out)
I am a buttons guy, the more the merrier, of course you do tend to sacrifice screen size
3) Connectivity, GSM 800/900/1800/1900, Edge, HSPDA , Wifi B/G
Hey, the more the merrier, the key is to just insert a sim in and have the phone do all the heavy lifting
4) Loud
Nothing beats having a loud ringtone and alarm.
5) Holds Dual Sim
One can hope eh?

What is my current phone you ask? It’s a HP 6965

*oh and I do carry along another old Nokia phone for standby.

Other than not having Blackberry connect, the HP has served me well for over 1 year now. However sadly, with my bosses plan to leash me even further, I might have to seriously consider an alternative.
