You would think with our forward thinking and woman’s increasing role in society, sexism is a dead concept. Case in point, I had a client whom recently I learn whose wife had given birth. So out of courtesy and curiosity I might add, I enquire on whether the baby was male or female. He replied nonchantly that it really doesn’t matter.
To most folks of Asian descent or at least who have grown up in Asia and more so for us Chinese, the reply intuitively allowed me to make a very educated guess that the baby was female. It’s really hard to explain but for Chinese and especially the more traditional Chinese, if the baby was a male heir, they would most likely loudly proclaim the birth; while doing the reverse for a female child. Sexist you say, but still the sad truth.
